Woman mauled by dogs released from hospital

NORTH MERRICK - The North Merrick woman who was viciously mauled by two pit bulls is being released from the hospital today, just in time for Thanksgiving.

Shashi Bala Sharma, 62, was attacked by the dogs while jogging at Brookside School in September.

She spent the past two months at the Nassau University Medical Center, getting treatment for her extensive injuries. Sharma had to undergo a string of surgeries and skin grafts, followed by major rehabilitation.Her doctors say it's the worst animal attack they've ever seen.Sharma and her son both say they're extremely grateful for the doctors' time and hard work.
