ISLIP - Authorities say a woman was killed this morning in a fast-moving fire in Islip.

Firefighters raced to put out the blaze within minutes of the 911 call at about 9 a.m., but were too late to save the victim.

"That's always a tough pill to swallow. The only thing I can say is my guys did a very good job, they were in there very quickly," says Assistant Fire Chief Bill Stenger, of the Islip Fire Department. "They found her very quickly, so they gave her best chance under the circumstances."

Authorities have not released the name of the victim.
