CENTER MORICHES - Suffolk County police say a woman was killed after she was hit by a truck plowing a parking lot in Center Moriches this afternoon.

According to authorities, 64-year-old Doris Metz, of Mastic Beach, was walking in the parking lot of the First Student Charter Bus Rental Company on Railroad Avenue just before 3 p.m. when she was struck by a pick-up truck with an attached plow.

Police say Metz was rushed to Brookhaven Memorial Medical Center where she was pronounced dead. They have identified the driver of the truck as 47-year-old Edward Grundstrom, of Manorville.

Metz, a grandmother to five, was a veteran bus driver for the William Floyd School District. According to a coworker, the truck was driving too fast when it hit her.

Officials say the truck has been impounded for a safety check. They say an investigation is ongoing, but Grundstrom has not been arrested or charged.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
