HEMPSTEAD - A Freeport woman accused of driving high and hitting and killing a doctor on her Hempstead lawn was sentenced to three to nine years in prison.

Kayla Gerdes, 20, was driving her boss' van when she drove up onto Dr. Rebecca Twine's lawn and killed her.

Gerdes was sentenced this afternoon for manslaughter and drug charges in the crash.

Prosecutors and Twine's family members were pushing for up to 15 years.
