HICKSVILLE - Wicked winds knocked out power and snarled some Long Islanders' commutes today.
Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) officials say a broken LIPA utility pole was leaning on electrical lines west of the Hicksville station, suspending service on the Port Jefferson and Ronkonkoma lines. Service was restored just before 4 p.m.
Trees came down on a number of streets, some knocking out power. LIPA reported close to 71,000 customers affected.
