Williams Sonoma employee accused of stealing merchandise

Police have arrested an employee of Williams Sonoma for stealing in excess of $200,000 worth of merchandise from the store. According to detectives, David Muscat,

GARDEN CITY - Police have arrested an employee of Williams Sonoma for stealing in excess of $200,000 worth of merchandise from the store.

According to detectives, David Muscat, 22, of Garden City, was employed as a stock room clerk for six years at the store located on Old Country Road.

Muscat is accused of stealing merchandise, hiding it with the trash and then removing the items while putting them in his car in the parking lot.

According to police, the defendant also opened an eBay account to sell items and gained a cash return.

William Sonoma is claiming a loss of $453,444 worth of merchandise over a three-year period.

Police say merchandise was also recovered from Muscat's car and home.

Muscat faces charges including grand larceny and criminal possession of stolen property, police say.
