Wild police chase shakes LI neighborhoods

BELLMORE - Fear and confusion gripped several Long Island communities today as people frantically tried to figure out why police cars were hurtling through their normally quiet streets and helicopters buzzed overhead.

"They had men with machine guns running into my mom's backyard," says Jeanne Digangi, as police officers pursued four men suspected in a brazen Bellmore home invasion.

Steve Kaplan says he noticed police cars across the street from his home and immediately called his neighbor, whose home had just been robbed.

"It's a terrible feeling. I know I wouldn't want it to happen to me," he says. To watch Chopper 12 footage of the Bellmore police pursuit, go to channel 612 on your iO digital cable box and select iO Extra.
