HOLTSVILLE - A wild American mustang has traveled hundreds of miles from the Nevada/California border to his new home at the Diamond Hedge Farm in Holtsville.
The 4-year-old, 1,300-pound horse was going to be put down as part of a government program to thin out an overpopulated herd, but instead was brought to Long Island by American-made clothing line Lost Cowboy Brands.
The horse, named Lost Cowboy, has roamed the country with herds that have been around since being brought to the United States from Mexico decades ago. He will receive a lot of training during the next 100 days before being presented at the Shartlesville, Pennsylvania horse show in September.
