WEST HEMPSTEAD - A rash of tire and rim thefts has sprung up across Nassau County, and the latest thefts are being reported in West Hempstead. Resident Bruce Orlofsky says he went outside this morning to find his car up on bricks in his driveway and his wheels gone. Just yesterday, another car was targeted a few blocks away. Frustrated residents say the thieves are striking in the wee hours of the morning, despite boosted police patrols in the area. As News 12 Long Island has reported, Nassau police recently caught a group of thieves believed to be responsible for taking more than 100 wheels in Massapequa and Wantagh. However, it's believed that there are several other groups of crooks still in action. Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.Thieves swipe wheels from 7 cars at Wantagh dealershipTires, rims robbed from cars at Wantagh dealershipPit crew criminals swipe tires, rims in Massapequa
