WESTBURY - Officials in Westbury are urging residents to be alert after several people reported feeling uneasy in dealings with suspicious door-to-door sales people. Village officials say that several supposed scam artists have knocked at residents' doors, claiming to sell bogus products and services. One Westbury resident says a strange woman showed up on her doorstep, claiming to sell replacement doors and windows. She says the woman acted strangely and wasn't carrying any pamphlets or documents. Authorities are warning that the scammers may be looking for homes to burglarize or elderly victims to prey on. They say the supposed scammers have been spotted driving cars with out-of-state license plates.Police say they've beefed up patrols in the area. Village officials have scheduled a public meeting on the scam for Oct. 24 at Village Hall.
