MANHATTAN - A Westbury couple and gay-marriage activists held a symbolic ceremony outside the New York City Clerk's Office today after their request for a marriage license was turned down.

Ross Lassegue and Manuel Reyes say they were offered a domestic partnership certificate, but turned it down because it doesn't offer nearly as many legal rights as a marriage license.

The couple says it has new hope for the legalization of same-sex marriage after Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D-N.Y.) reaffirmed his support for it last week.
