RIVERHEAD - Officials are warning drivers out east to be on the lookout for deer in the road.

It is the peak of mating season, which means deer are move active and more likely to be out on Long Island roadways.

East Hampton town tells News 12 there have been 68 car vs. deer accidents this year.

Southold police say 20 percent of all car accidents in the town involve deer. Officials say the number spikes in October and November and becomes a serious public safety problem.
