War of words erupts between Bellone, Levy over leaked memo

WOODBURY - A leaked internal memo has sparked an executive clash in Suffolk between the current and former county leaders. The memo from current Executive Steve Bellone's administration claims that Steve Levy, the former executive, intentionally misled bond rating agencies about the county's finances. The document was leaked to the Wall Street Journal, which says that although the memo doesn't specifically name Levy, it refers to "Official A" who ran for governor.Levy came out swinging, challenging Bellone to meet him "anytime, any place" for a debate. Bellone denied a request for an interview. He released a statement that says he has no comment on Steve Levy, but adds, "I do however regret the fact that the actions of my administration, though well intentioned, have temporarily brought back the circus-like atmosphere that has characterized Suffolk County government for the last several years."
