OYSTER BAY - Friends and family gathered today at the wake for journalist Marie Colvin who was killed while reporting in Syria.

Colvin, who spent 25 years as a war correspondent for London's Sunday Times, was killed on Feb. 22 while reporting from the besieged city of Homs.

"She stayed because she didn't think the word of what was happening would get out. No one would know it was happening unless she was there to bear witness," said her sister, Cat Colvin. "One person can make a difference and Marie was just one person but she made a big difference."

The funeral for Colvin will be held on Monday.
