WEST ISLIP - Parents in West Islip packed tonight's school board meeting to listen to a number of proposals to cut costs at the West Islip School District.

School officials say the cuts must be made due to declining enrollment, cuts in state aid and the new property tax cap.

Superintendent Richard Simon says some options include closing one or two schools, as well as changing the grade structure within the schools. He says each option has its pros and cons.

Parents say they are concerned about overcrowding in classrooms and possible redistricting for students.

Superintendent Simon says that a final decision will be made by sometime early next year.
