WEST BABYLON - A West Babylon family says a man posing as a worker for a home security company attempted to get into their home.

The homeowner, who did not want to be named, told News 12 that a man dressed in a Honeywell uniform knocked on her door Tuesday night, addressed her by her last name and delivered a sales pitch.

After calling Honeywell, the company confirmed that it was a scam.

A Honeywell spokesperson told News 12, "Honeywell does not sell security products door to door, but to thousands of independent security dealers throughout the country. We're not aware of the instance reported in Long Island, but we have strict guidelines around using our logo and dealers are not permitted to represent themselves as employees or agents of Honeywell."

If someone comes to your house claiming to be a salesperson for Honeywell, the company says to call police and alert the local media to get the word out about the scam.
