ALBANY - It is primary day for state Senate and Assembly races on Long Island.

The winners today will appear on the ballot this November.

A trio of Democrats are looking to challenge freshman State Sen. Republican Tom Croci in the 3rd District.

The list includes former Suffolk Legislator Rick Montano, attorney Joseph Fritz and law student John DeVito.

There are also two assembly primaries in Suffolk County and two in Nassau County.

Every state legislator is up for re-election this year, including the 63 state Senate seats.

Democrats are hoping to win enough seats to overtake a GOP-controlled power sharing arrangement that currently exists.
