Voters defeat merger between Southampton, Tuckahoe school districts

WOODBURY - Voters in the Southampton Union Free School District have defeated a plan calling for a merger with the neighboring Tuckahoe district.

The deal would have likely saved $8 million, but would have also resulted in an 8.5-percent tax hike for Southampton residents.

The districts will have to wait another year before proposing a new merger vote.
