BELLMORE - A retired teacher today taught some students in Bellmore an important lesson in acceptance with the help of her guide dog.

Carmen Greico, a visually impaired retired teacher, talked with children at Winthrop Avenue School as part of Disabilities Awareness Week.

Representatives from the Guidedog Foundation were also on hand to explain how they train the canines to help those who are unable to walk without a guide.

Greico also pointed out the importance of knowing that if a dog is wearing a harness or a vest, it indicates that they are working and that when a dog is seen with a disabled person, let them do their job.
