QUOGUE - The Village of Quogue has settled a sexual harassment suit against a former jail attendant who accused a village police officer with penning a sexually explicit letter to her.

Charlotte Lander, 64, says officer John Mangino wrote a letter that described a fictional sexual encounter between them two years ago and left it inside her home.

The village settled for $16,000 to end the suit. Lander said that the suit was never about the money. She said she wanted to feel protected.

Mangino remains with the police department as a part-time officer.

Mangino says he wants to apologize for his actions and describes the incident as a "friendship that went bad."To watch an interview with Charlotte Lander, click on News 12 Extra on Optimum TV channel 612.
