WOODBURY - Families of Sept. 11 attack victims were able to watch the first day of pre-trial hearings for five suspects accused of being responsible for the attacks.
One of the men on trial, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, is the self-proclaimed mastermind of the attacks.
The trial, which is being held in Guantanamo Bay, is a closed trial, but families of victims have access through feeds made available at a number of military bases, including Fort Hamilton in Brooklyn.
The judge ruled today that the men do not have to attend the rest of the week's hearings. The actual trial is expected to begin in six to eight months.
