Veolia announces service changes for NICE Bus
MINEOLA - Veolia Transportation laid out its service redesign for the NICE Bus system this morning.
The company says the biggest change Long Islanders will notice is the elimination of mid-day and Saturday buses. Mid-day lines that are affected are the N48, 78, 45, 21 and 62. The Saturday bus service cuts come on lines N51 and 45.
The CEO of Veolia Transportation, Michael Setzer, says there are a few lines where the usage during the day is so low that it just doesn't make sense to keep them there. In Mineola, commuters will now be able to hop off the train and go on certain buses in less time. Possibly the best news for people who travel to Queens every day is the creation of a new express bus from Hempstead to Jamaica. The service changes come as the company tries to save money to fill a $7.3 million budget hole. The company says it has been studying the way Long Islanders use the system for months.
