CENTERPORT - Pieces of presidential history were on display today at the Vanderbilt Museum.
The museum celebrated Presidents Day by showing visitors some historical paintings, letters and other items held in its Memorial Wing.
Many got the chance to see an oil painting of President George Washington and a letter written by President Abraham Lincoln on May 4, 1861. It was addressed to Fernando Wood, the mayor of New York City, thanking him for his cooperation with the Civil War effort.
Officials say that the letter stirred up a lot of excitement today and will be on display through next Sunday.
