CENTERPORT - The Vanderbilt Museum and Planetarium is set to reopen after undergoing a multimillion-dollar facelift.

The facelift allowed the museum to renovate and install a new state-of-the-art systems projector. The new projector can generate 300,000 stars on the museum's 37-foot dome.

The new unit replaced an older projector, which was installed back in the 1970s.

The renovation was paid for by a $3 million grant from Suffolk County.

The planetarium will reopen on Friday.
