US pushes for extradition of accused Mexican drug lord Joaquin Guzman on drug-trafficking charges

MEXICO - The United States is hoping to get its hands on the most wanted drug kingpin in the world.

Joaquin ‘El Chapo’ Guzman, also known as the Osama Bin Laden of Mexico, was arrested on Saturday.

Mexican Marines made the arrest with the help of U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration officials from Long Island, according to Newsday.

The United States is now pushing for his extradition on drug-trafficking charges.

Federal agents say thousands of kilograms of Guzman's cocaine have been involved in several busts in the New York area, including in Deer Park.

Officials say Guzman contributed to the death and destruction of millions of lives.

Guzman's alleged drug empire made him more than a billion dollars, making him one of Forbes magazine's most powerful people in the world.
