UNIONDALE - A Uniondale woman says someone tried to break into her home and set it on fire Monday night.
Maria Verellas, who lives on Arcadia Avenue with her mother, says someone rang her doorbell at 9:45 p.m. After deciding not to answer the door, she heard the window screen in the back of her home ripping, and saw a flaming napkin on the floor.
Verellas was able to put out the flames and call police. She says she has no idea who would want to burn down her home.
Police are asking anyone with information about the incident to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
