LAGUARDIA AIRPORT - Long security lines at airports continue to rile travelers.

As News 12 has reported, long screening lines are clogging up airports and riling up passengers across the country.  U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson says a mix of tighter security measures, fewer screeners and an increase in the amount of travelers are all to blame, and the problem won't be alleviated overnight.

The TSA expected its precheck program to catch on more with frequent fliers, which would have allowed for less screeners and shorter lines. Congress has authorized $34 million in additional funding to allow the TSA to pay more overtime to its current staff and to hire more than 750 new screeners.

Secretary Johnson says those measures won't solve the issue completely, and despite the frustrations of some, that officials will not risk passenger safety for shorter wait times.

The TSA also has an app for passengers to post wait times so that others can monitor before they head to the airport.
