MASSAPEQUA PARK - Police are trying to track down the trio who stole a pricey bicycle from a Nassau County shop and also attempted to target a second store.

Investigators say the suspects, a woman and two men, used distraction techniques in both cases.

Daniel Sirota, of Brand Cycle and Fitness in Wantagh, says the three came into his store last Thursday. Two of them distracted a salesperson while the third wheeled a $6,000 mountain bike out the door. They were captured on surveillance video.

"I think they know what they're doing," Sirota says. "They realize they can probably sell them on Craigslist, eBay or the black market and make a pretty quick killing."

The same suspects were seen on surveillance video at Sunrise Cycle in Massapequa Park. They allegedly attempted another distraction robbery, but were not successful in that case.

Cathy Totino, of Sunrise Cycle, says she believes the suspects wore earphones to relay messages to each other. She says she followed them outside and saw them get into a green minivan that had out-of-state license plates.

Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
