MASSAPEQUA - Memorials and tributes continue to pour in for the NYPD officer from Massapequa killed in the line of duty.

Officer Brian Moore, 25, was shot in the head in Queens Saturday as he was trying to question a man about a gun. Police arrested Demetrius Blackwell, who is facing first-degree murder charges.

The New York Mets paid tribute to the fallen officer Tuesday by wearing NYPD hats before their game against the Baltimore Orioles. Rep. Peter King (R – Seaford) said in a Facebook post that the tribute was “New York at its very best…I am proud that he was my constituent.”

The eighth-grade baseball team from Plainedge also wore NYPD hats for their game Wednesday. They were provided by NYPD Officer John Petrucci.

"The young kids, what they've seen lately on the news, the police aren't really painted in the greatest picture sometimes,” said Petrucci. “When a cop does something like this, gives himself like he did, it's very important that these kids know what he was about and what it means to be a cop."

Hundreds of blue ribbons can be found in and around Moore’s Massapequa community.

NYPD Commissioner William Bratton spoke about Moore and other members of New York’s finest who were killed in the line of duty.

"We can measure the value of our work in the lives that they have saved, the lives not lived in fear,” said Bratton. “That is what Detective Williams, Detective Ramos, Detective Liu and Officer Moore did every day of their careers. That is why they gave their lives."

Moore's wake will be held Thursday at Chapey & Sons Funeral Home in Bethpage from 2-4:30 p.m. and 7-9:30 p.m.  His funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday at St. James Roman Catholic Church in Seaford.
