MANHATTAN - The so-called "cannibal cop" trial began today in Manhattan.

City police officer Gilberto Valle, 28, is accused of plotting to kidnap, kill, cook and eat dozens of women.

Prosecutors are expected to reveal a trail of emails, computer files and messages that detail his plans.

Valle's defense team says it was part of a fantasy and nothing was supposed to be taken seriously.
