MALVERNE - A transgender teen has chosen to wear a dress at this year's Malverne High School senior prom.

Isaiah Polite will be wearing a sequined, royal blue gown with a sweetheart neckline and shoes to match.

"I didn't have help from my parents because they didn't support me going to the prom in a dress, so it makes me feel proud of myself because I did it myself," Polite told News 12.

Polite wants other students who are struggling with their identity to have the courage to be who they are.

"I am doing this for other kids in other schools who can't express themselves like me," said Polite. "You don't have to be what everyone else wants you to be. You can just be yourself."

The prom is taking place at the Courtyard by Marriott in Ronkonkoma on June 26.
