Town of Huntington to implement free valet parking plan for 3-month trial

A public lot south of Main Street between New and Green streets will become the valet lot.

HUNTINGTON - Drivers may soon not have to worry about finding a parking spot in Huntington Village.

The town knows parking is a major problem and says as a result, it plans to offer free valet parking starting in June. A public lot south of Main Street between New and Green streets will become the valet lot.

The town says it found valet could increase lot space by 40 percent because attendants can park in the aisles. The three-month valet parking trial will most likely be offered on Fridays and Saturdays.

The $50,000 price tag that comes with the plan will be split between the town, the Huntington Chamber of Commerce, the Economic Development Corporation and the Business Improvement District.

The town says the valet is just a temporary solution and it recognizes as the town continues to grow, a permanent garage may still be needed.
