AMITYVILLE - Many parents are wondering how they will explain the Connecticut school shooting to their children.

Dr. Nicola Beckles, the school psychologist at Amityville's elementary and middle schools, says it's normal for parents to feel confused about having such a conversation with their kids.

Beckles suggests that parents let their children's curiosity guide the conversation. She says parents should be ready to answer questions about death and guns, topics that may be new to them.
