SEAFORD - Day 6 of Long Island’s heat wave brought brief but powerful thunderstorms that resulted in a fire in Mount Sinai.

Officials believe a lightning strike this afternoon caused a house fire on Crabapple Court.

Firefighters needed to battle excessive heat in addition to the flames. At least a dozen firefighters were treated for heat exhaustion.

Saturday is expected to be sunny, hot and humid again with more afternoon storms.

both of which will be open through Friday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
• Port Washington Public Library, which will be open Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
• Roslyn Community Center, which will be open Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
