ROSLYN - Thousands of Long Islanders were without power after temperatures climbed today.

As of 10:50 p.m., LIPA said crews were out working on restoring power to more than 8,000 customers in Suffolk and Nassau counties.

Officials say residents used a record amount of power to deal with the heat.

According to LIPA, customers used 5,900 megawatts. They say on an average summer day, customers use 4,800 megawatts

Officials are asking those who need to report an outage to call 800-490-0075.
