NORTHPORT - Thousands of runners laced up for the annual Cow Harbor race in Northport on Saturday.

The annual 10K race took more than 4,000 athletes through 6.2 miles of some of the steepest hills on Long Island.

It's considered one of the best races in the nation by Runners World magazine.

Michelle Reising says running with a group of veterans gave her the comradery she felt in the military.

"It's lonely when you first get out until you find something like this," she says.

The race's male winner was Aaron Braun, who also won two years ago.

The race's first-place female runner was first-time Cow Harbor runner Natosha Rogers.
