LAGUARDIA AIRPORT - Flights were already being canceled at airports from Chicago to New York Monday, hours before an incoming nor'easter, complicating travel plans for many people.

Throughout the country, at least 5,300 flights were canceled for Monday and Tuesday.

For Francisco Garcia, who was trying to fly to Dubai, that meant the first two flights he booked were both canceled.

"This afternoon, we actually got canceled out of our first flight out of United [Airlines] through Newark, and then we got canceled out of our second flight from Air Canada," he said. "So now this is our third option, through American [Airlines] and going through Toronto."

Fiona Azubuike was supposed to leave for Miami Tuesday, but she had to try and to catch an earlier flight to avoid getting stuck at the airport.

"I've been here before when they've closed LaGuardia, which I assume may happen tomorrow," Azubuike said. "They canceled like 5,000 flights, so it was rough."

While some travelers were able to reschedule and leave early, some, like Trent Harris, couldn't find anything before Wednesday.

"It's horrible, but it's safety," Harris said.

All arriving and departing flights at MacArthur Airport are canceled today.
