PATCHOGUE - A Mount Sinai family says that they are heartbroken after a thief took off with a donation jar full of money to help cover medical costs for 23-year-old Nicole Herbert.

The incident was caught on surveillance video at Finest Fitness gym in Patchogue last Friday afternoon. The jar was filled with $1,500 for Herbert, who is battling a rare disease that has robbed her of the ability to walk, talk and breathe on her own.

Anyone with information about the stolen donations is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
