HEMPSTEAD - ? Some families in need enjoyed a warm Thanksgiving meal today thanks to generous Long Islanders.

Local soup kitchens were busy taking donations and serving those in need, including The INN in Hempstead.

The INN has already served people this holiday and received about 3,000 turkeys as a donation. The location has already given out more than 2,500 to families in need. Rob Kammerer, of the Interfaith Nutrition Network, says some Long Island children have donated Thanksgiving pumpkins for centerpieces and made placemats for the big meal.

Kammerer says The INN receives about 25 percent of its food donations during this week.
