HEMPSTEAD - ? Dozens of tenants in Hempstead were forced out into the heat this morning after a fire at an apartment building. The fire broke out on Washington Street just before 8 a.m.

The American Red Cross is on the scene making sure tenants and firefighters stay hydrated in the heat.

Officials are also transporting people to Hempstead town hall to stay cool. The Red Cross will decide later today if a shelter should be set up for residents.
