EAST ISLIP - Cops say a tenant turned the tables on armed robbers during a deadly home invasion in East Islip overnight.
The incident happened at a home on East Adams Street after midnight.
Police say three men, at least one of them armed, burst into the home through the back door and shot the tenant's pit bull twice.
Cops say a man living in a first-floor apartment heard the noise, grabbed a shotgun and killed one of the robbers.
The tenant shot and injured a second suspect, 25-year-old Justin Benkov, who was rushed to Southside Hospital. A third man, Phillipe Robinette, ran off, but was later captured and charged with burglary.
The family pit bull is expected to survive.
