BROOKLYN - Tempers flared at a meeting Thursday night over the future of Long Island College Hospital (LICH).

SUNY board members voted last week to shut down LICH, which is part of the financially strapped SUNY Downstate Medical Center.

Cobble Hill residents and other nearby community members voiced their frustrations, arguing that there is no way for surrounding facilities to absorb the patients who receive care at the hospital.

The future of LICH is now in the hands of the Department of Health.
