SYOSSET - Syosset School District's youngest board member was sworn in today in a secretive, closed-door ceremony that even the teen's father was barred from attending. Josh Lafazan, 18, says the secrecy is just one thing he wants to eliminate in the district with his new position. The teen was elected to the board on a wave of unrest over high school taxes, in a district where the superintendent is the highest paid in the state. Dr. Carole Hankin takes home more than $500,000 per year and the board recently extended her contract through 2017. Lafazan says now that he's on the board, he'd like to open up the entire budget process to the Syosset community. He says he wants to work together with his fellow board members and with administrators to usher in some change. Teen wins seat on Syosset school board
