Teacher accused of endangering the welfare of a child

BAYVILLE - ? A Nassau County teacher appeared in court today after being accused of having inappropriate contact with an 8-year-old student.

Cops say music teacher John Benstock, 47, was an instructor at the Locust Valley Intermediate School and the Bayville Intermediate School.

Benstock was arrested yesterday and charged with endangering the welfare of a child.

Cops say the female student told her mother about the alleged incident in April.

Locust Valley School Superintendent Anna Hunderfund says, ?Mr. Benstock has been reassigned to his home with pay and directed to not have any communication or contact with any student of the Locust Valley Central School District.?

The judge issued orders of protection for the child and her classmates.

Benstock will be back in court in June.

He is free on bail after posting $10,000 bond.
