SOUTHAMPTON - A fuel spill shut down Montauk Highway in Southampton this morning.
Police say a tanker carrying 32,000 gallons of oil began leaking on the roadway near the Southampton/Water Mill border at around 7:30 a.m.
According to officials, the spill was caused by a broken valve in the tanker.
At one point, Southampton police say traffic on Montauk Highway was at a standstill for 2-3 miles in each direction.
