Swimming ban in effect at 10 Suffolk beaches due to bacteria levels

HUNTINGTON - Officials say 10 Suffolk beaches have swimming bans because of unacceptable bacteria levels.

The beaches affected are on both the North and South shores from Lloyd Harbor to the North Fork.

The bans are at Crescent Beach in Huntington Bay, Tanner Park Beach in Copiague, Peconic Dunes County Park in Southold, Lloyd Harbor Village Park Beach in Lloyd Harbor, Head of the Bay Club Beach in Huntington Bay, Bay Crest Association Beach in Huntington Bay, Bay Hills Association Beach in Huntington Bay, Lake Ronkonkoma Beach in Islip, and Copiague Harbor POA in Copiague.

Exposure to the bacteria could cause eye, ear and throat infections.
