NORTHPORT - Brave swimmers headed to Steers Beach in Northport today for the fifth annual New Year's Day Polar Bear Swim.

With the water temperature in the 30s, swimmers jumped in and ran back out.

The event, sponsored by Boy Scout Troop 410, raised money for Northport's food pantry.

Those who participated say it's a fun way to ring in the new year and look forward to coming back next year.
