CENTRAL ISLIP - Police are seeking suspects after three fatal shootings in three days within one mile of each other in Central Islip.

Authorities have identified the latest victim as 25-year-old Matthew Gilmore, who was gunned down yesterday on Clayton Street.

Gilmore was the third man fatally shot in less than 40 hours in Central Islip. Police say 21-year-old Derrick Mayes was found dead in the middle of Wilson Boulevard on Sunday night. Keenan Russel, 21, was killed while walking home from a party on Acorn Avenue early yesterday morning, according to authorities.

Police said in a statement that they are concerned about gun violence and have increased patrols in the area with both uniformed and plain-clothed officers.

Authorities are investigating whether the first two shootings are connected.

Anyone with information is urged to call Suffolk Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
