NORTH BELLMORE - A woman was knocked in the head, thrown into the back of a car and sexually assaulted in North Bellmore early Sunday morning before she was able to flee her assailant.

Police say it happened as the 25-year-old woman was walking on Porter Street near Porter Place around 2 a.m.

The attacker approached the woman from behind and struck her in the head. She was then thrown into the backseat of the suspect's car and assaulted for nearly five minutes.

Investigators say she was able to kick the suspect, free herself and escape. She immediately called police.

The attacker is described as a white male, approximately 30 years old, who stands around 6 feet tall with a large build. He has a goatee without a moustache, and police say he was driving a black, four-door car with a tan interior. The car was extremely messy inside, with garbage thrown about, according to investigators.

Neighbors along Porter Street say it's not unusual to see people walking down their street, heading to a 7-Eleven nearby. Residents who spoke with News 12 were startled by the incident, and some said they would be more alert of their surroundings.

Anyone with information on the suspect is asked to call Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
