Suspect arrested in rash of Suffolk smash-and-grab burglaries

AMITYVILLE - Suffolk police say they've nabbed the man behind a rash of smash-and-grab burglaries that targeted businesses along the South Shore over the past several months.

According to investigators, 29-year-old Anthony Cole, of Copiague, was arrested at the Amityville train station early Saturday morning.

Detectives say Cole burglarized 11 businesses over the past three months by breaking front glass windows and stealing items, including cash and cigarettes.

Police say he robbed the Brooklyn Fish and Chips eatery on Broadway in Amityville on Dec. 22; Georges Coffee Shop on Bayview Avenue in Amityville on Dec. 30; Han City Wellwood Chinese on North Wellwood Avenue in Lindenhurst on Dec. 31; Dapper Vapor on 40th Street in Lindenhurst in Jan. 2; Thrifty Beverage Center on Route 109 in North Lindenhurst on Jan. 15; 109 Car Wash on Route 109 in East Farmingdale on Jan. 17; Sunrise Laundromat on Sunrise Highway in North Amityville on Feb. 3; Hi! Deli & Bagel on Broadway in North Amityville on Feb. 6; Amity Car Wash on Merrick Road in Amityville on Feb. 26; Tai Feng Laundromat on Broadway in Amityville on Feb. 26; and the Valero Gas Station on Sunrise Highway in North Amityville on March 4.

Cole was taken into custody by 1st Precinct officers, with assistance by the the 1st Precinct Gang Unit and Amityville Police Department.

He is charged with 11 counts of third-degree burglary.
